Genetic relationships between Chilota and Spanish native sheep breeds of Chile

چکیده
Chilota sheep is a typical animal population from Chiloé Archipelago in the south of Chile. First sheep were introduced in Chiloé in 1568 with Spanish conquerors. In 2010 Chilota sheep was recognized as the first original breed of Chile. Blood samples were obtained from 40 Chilota individuals from 40 flocks spread throughout Chiloé Archipelago. A maximum of one individual per flock were sampled. Up to 21 microsatellites, previously used to characterize both betweenand within-breed genetic relationships in sheep were analyzed in all the individuals. Results show that Chilota sheep shows a population structure that doesn ́t differ significantly from that presented in the Spanish racial groups previously analyzed. A deficit of heterozygotes is also observed possibly because of geographic isolation on the islands within the archipelago of Chiloé.

Udder Morphological Traits and Milk Yield of Chilota and Suffolk down Sheep Breeds
Morphological traits of the whole udder (circumference, width, height, and length), teats (angle, length and width), udder cistern (teat opening and cistern height), and milk yield were measured over one lactation in a total of 18 ewes (nine Chilota and nine Suffolk Down sheep) belonging to the same experimental flock (Centro Experimental INIA Butalcura, Chiloé, Chile). Analysis of variance sho...

The effect of the application of winter supplementation (experiment A), deworming (experiment B) and foot trimming (experiment C) in three sheep breedsfound in the Chiloé Archipelago (Chile): Chilota (CH), Romney Marsh (RM) and Suffolk Down (SD) was evaluated with the aim of assessing the productive performance of the exotic breeds (RM and SD) in relation to the native one (CH) under the agro-e...
متن کاملTesting the usefulness of the molecular coancestry information to assess genetic relationships in livestock using a set of Spanish sheep breeds.
Recent studies have proposed the use of molecular coancestry coefficients as a measure of genetic variability and as a useful tool for conservation purposes. Using simulated data, molecular coancestry has been shown to become constant very quickly after separation of populations, leading to population diversity remaining constant. However, the use of molecular coancestry information to study th...
متن کاملGenetic Diversity and Molecular Phylogeny of Iranian Sheep Based on Cytochrome b Gene Sequences
Phylogenetic relationships and genetic variation between two Iranian sheep breeds were analyzed using cytochrome b (cyt-b) gene sequences. The genomic DNA was isolated by salting out method and amplified cytochrome b gene using polymerase chain reaction restriction (PCR) method with a pair of primer. A partial sequence of cyt-b gene of Iranian sheep is 780 bp and contained 13 variable sites and...
متن کاملSequence Variations of Mitochondrial DNA Displacement-Loop in Iranian Indigenous Sheep Breeds
Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been used extensively to study population genetics because it has the unique features of maternal inheritance, a relatively fast rate of evolution and lack of recombination. A total of 82 unrelated sheep from 10 Iranian indigenous sheep breeds were investigated to determinate the maternal genetic diversity using a sequence of a 685 bp segment of the displacement lo...
